Natural Impressions:
Dyeing on Paper
A two-session workshop presented by Marilyn Zornado & Judilee Fitzhugh
OUR FIRST IN-PERSON WORKSHOP OF THE YEAR!!!!
About the Workshop
Learn the principles of dyeing with leaves and objects using heat and pressure, a process sometimes called Eco Dyeing. The focus of this class will be using paper. Students will prepare wrapped bundles that will transfer the natural dyes founds in plants onto paper. We will dry and flatten our paper and make a couple of small projects. You will leave the class with finished projects and paper to use in future work.
About the Artist:
Marilyn Zornado is a director, animator, motion-graphics artist, calligrapher and book artist. After a career as Senior Producer at Will Vinton Studios, a pioneering stop-motion studio in Portland Oregon, she now works full-time as an artist, combining her love of animation with book arts, both on her own projects and on commissions. She teaches Motion Graphics at PNCA in the BFA program and Book Arts & Calligraphy in the PNCA Community Education Program. After the closure of the beloved Oregon College of Art & Craft in Spring 2019, where she had studied and taught for many years, she revamped the building that houses her studio to create ZORNADO Studio, a book arts classroom.
Other notable work includes animated illustrations for the PBS American Masters documentary on James Beard, directed by Elizabeth Federici and edited by Greg Snider.
Marilyn has a MFA in Computer Animation and a BA in Graphic Design. She lives on a houseboat on Multnomah Channel with her husband, sound engineer Alan Garren.
In 2017, Marilyn became a member of the Motion Picture Academy of Arts and Sciences. You can see more of Suzie’s work on Instagram: @penstrokedesignstudio
