The shadows that gold creates are really special and fascinating. Loredana wants to share her passion for gold illumination with her students, exploring its use in other than a traditional context. Loredana enjoys experimenting with all types of gold: from various gold colors in tubes, in pans and, of course, the special ones – gold leaves. In this course, Loredana will demonstrate the use of real gold leaf, the so-called “fake” versions and variegated gold leaves as well.

The course, instructed online over five sessions, once a week for two hours each week, will begin with the creation of outlines—where students will be encouraged to fashion their craziest or wild ideas as a template to explore the use of illumination. Doing so will prompt interesting design compositions, which may or may not include the use of letters.  With students working on their own designs, Loredana will then demonstrate illumination techniques using a variety and combination of gold applications. This is a project workshop, where attendees will have the opportunity to craft some of their own beautifully illuminated pieces.

Session recordings: Recordings of every session will be provided within a day after the conclusion of each session and remain available for two months following the last class.

Facebook Page: PSC will create a private Facebook page exclusively for this workshop. As a key component of the workshop, the Facebook page will be a place where students can share their work following each session and, importantly, where Loredana will have the opportunity to review and critique student work.

Handouts and Other Details: A full set of workshop handouts, any guidelines that Loredana may use and all other course details, including the Zoom link to the first online sessions, will be made available to admitted students a week or more before the first session.
