Walnut Ink

Walnut ink is a water-based, natural colorant made from walnut husks that can be used for drawing, painting, and lettering. It’s available in a variety of colors and can be used on porous surfaces to create earth tones. Walnut ink can have a sepia tone and is fade-resistant. It can also have watercolor-like properties, allowing for layering and lifting in darker washes.

Walnut ink comes in the form of walnut ink crystals or bottles of ink that are ready for use.

You can also make your own walnut ink by looking up recipes online.

Mixing Walnut Ink Crystals

Stir 1 teaspoon walnut crystals into half a cup of distilled water. Wait 25 minutes for crystals to thoroughly dissolve. Use as ink.
