Weathergrams
Lloyd J. Reynolds was the founder of The Portland Society for Calligraphy. Lloyd Reynolds developed the Weathergram as a way for students to make beautiful things in a simple way and share their calligraphy with others. A Weathergram is a piece of grocery store kraft paper with a short verse (also known as a Weathergram) written simply in Italic. The Weathergram is hung outdoors in the elements and allowed to biodegrade. Often the first letter was written in Japanese vermillion and/or with a larger pen for emphasis. Sometimes the artist’s Chinese chop or Japanese hanko was used as a signature. The booklet, Weathergrams, was written by Lloyd J. Reynolds.
