A Poignant Memory of our Portland Calligraphy Community
Timothy Swain discovered calligraphy 60 years ago & fairly early on he learned to love what Lloyd Reynolds taught. He pursued musicke, books, & poetry; a whole life of those things–& recently wrote about these in a writing called CALLIGRAPHY–LLOYD REYNOLDS–HOLY BIBLE–BEAUTIFUL WRITING with reference to England’s chief calligrapher Donald Jackson. That led to St. John’s Abbey & University in Minnesota producing a modern calligraphed version of the Bible done entirely by hand (which took a modest group of calligraphers years to complete). Timothy sets forth the story of these in all their glory–with his particular account of Lloyd Reynolds & his particular influence.
