When: Monday, November 12th, 6:30 pm

Please join us for an evening with Maria Galati, David Douglas High School art and calligraphy teacher extraordinaire.

In her 20th year at David Douglas, Maria is one of a handful of teachers in the state including calligraphy in their curriculum. This year, 83 of her students entered 92 works of art in the Oregon Art Annual at the State Fair.

David Douglas High, with an enrollment of more than 3,000 students, has a very diverse demographic profile, and 72% of their students are on free or reduced lunch. This economic circumstance adds even greater challenge for both teacher and student.

Maria will share work by her award-winning high school artists and calligraphers, followed by exercises she uses with her students to create their own texts for lettering. This engaging process encourages students to look to their own life experience for inspiration. A student from David Douglas High describes Maria as “amazing, influential, talented, and an understanding teacher.”

We are looking forward to seeing you!
