As a native Portlander, I began studying calligraphy at age 12. My teachers include Jaki Svaren and Elizabeth Anderson. My work has been shown in juried West Coast exhibits and has been featured in Letter Arts Review, Alphabet, and Bound & Lettered. I have been teaching lettering since 1997 and currently teach at the Multnomah Arts Center in Portland, OR (where I also teach creative writing). Developed in the 1300s in Northern Europe, Blackletter is a popular style of writing that can be used in many ways. It’s also easier than you think. We will study variations of Blackletter and learn about its history. You will learn how to use a broad-edged pen with ink on paper and work on a final project of your own choosing
